Nine desks. Every source credentialed. One email, Thursdays.
The promise
The civilian training space publishes thousands of hours a week and filters almost none of it. We read it, check who taught it, and send you the handful worth a Saturday. Every entry is credited by name and linked back to the person who made it. We never re-host, embed or reproduce anyone’s work.
Issue No. 001 is public in full. No email wall, no address collected to read it.

Documentation, not fantasy
The algorithm is not a filter. It is a volume dial.
What the feed optimizes for
- Watch time
- Personality
- Volume
- Whoever sent the holster
What we optimize for
- —A verifiable training background
- —Skills, taught, over attitude
- —5 minutes, once a week
- —Nobody can buy a place in it
The cost of a bad filter here is not a wasted evening. It is bad technique and a bad legal assumption, carried into the worst moment of someone’s life. So the bar has to be real, and it has to be published.
We publish the credentials we check and the sources we refuse.
A source earns a place on the Roster only if the instructor has a verifiable training background — military, law enforcement, or a recognized instructor certification — and teaches skills rather than attitude. The exclusion list below is a feature, not fine print. It is the reason to trust the inclusion list.
Excluded absolutely and permanently
- 01Illegal weapon modifications
- 02Instruction on circumventing firearms law
- 03Extremist ideology or affiliation
- 04Material that glorifies violence rather than teaching defense
When a source is ambiguous, it is excluded.
Off-roster
Reasons, never accusations
- No verifiable instructor background
- Spectacle over skill
- Sponsored placement, undisclosed
- Ambiguous affiliation
Excluded sources are recorded by reason and never named. The bar is ours to defend in public; a creator’s reputation is not ours to spend.
We take no affiliate money and sell no placements. Fortispec is the founder’s own gear company; when it appears it is headed “From Fortispec — our own company”, at most once every 4 or 5 issues.
Nothing we publish is legal or medical advice. The Legal & Use-of-Force desk is awareness level, written for US law and US practice. We send you to the instructor and take responsibility only for the filter.
Nine standing desks. You choose which ones reach you.
All 9 are on by default, so choosing is skippable in zero taps. Retune them whenever you like and the next issue narrows to match.
What holds up after 6 months of real carry, judged by people who carried it.
Layout, lighting, and the drill you can actually run in your own hallway.
Drills with a pass mark and a par time, not a highlight reel.
TCCC-based, taught by instructors who have used it on a real casualty.
The unglamorous work that keeps every other desk on this list possible.
Reading a room and then leaving it. De-escalation before anything else.
Map, compass, and the day the phone stops being a plan.
Radios, licensing and antennas that still work when the tower does not.
Awareness level, US practice. Never advice, and we say so every time.
An issue is 9 of these. Nothing else.
